Coulter Lewis

Founder & CEO Sunday

Coulter Lewis is the founder and CEO of Sunday, the simple way to grow a beautiful lawn that's safe to play on every day. Unlike traditional brands that use harmful chemicals, Sunday doesn’t add to the 90M pounds of pesticides sprayed on lawns each year and instead uses ingredients you can pronounce, like molasses and seaweed. Rooted in science, Sunday analyzes your weather and soil data to determine exactly what your lawn needs and ships a tailored nutrition plan directly to your door each season, taking the guesswork out of lawn care.

As a first-time home buyer with little gardening or lawn care experience, Coulter had never taken care of a lawn before so he turned to the internet for guidance. Instead of finding instructions, he found warnings that he was about to cover his lawn with 10 times more chemicals than used on industrial farms. Coulter knew that if these chemicals were on his lawn, they were also in his home, and as a mechanical and aerospace engineer, he set out to create a product that would be both safe for his family and easy to use.  Working with experts, including an award-winning soil scientist from Cornell University, he built Sunday as an answer to the one size fits all, toxic, mass-produced lawn care treatments on the market.

Coulter’s idea for Sunday is grounded in both his commitment to transparency and his background in great design. Prior to Sunday, Coulter co-founded Quinn Snacks with his wife, Kristy Lewis, to give families the choice to snack mindfully, with only sustainable ingredients used in production. The couple was inspired to start Quinn Snacks after their son Quinn was born and they realized the lack of transparency and accountability in the production of popcorn and other popular snacks. He and his wife set out to solve this by creating snacks with ingredients parents could trust. Through this experience they developed a network of growers and suppliers that emphasize transparency and remove unnecessary chemicals and artificial ingredients, which ultimately served as a resource for Coulter as he pursued building Sunday and transforming lawn care.

Before Quinn Snacks, Coulter was a principal designer at IDEO; Coulter earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and currently lives in Boulder with his wife and their 3 boys — who love playing on their lawn!
